Beyond the Paycheck: Is Your Money Working While You Sleep?
Ready to break free from living paycheck to paycheck? Financial literacy isn't just about understanding money—it's about taking action to improve your financial situation through multiple income streams.
During Financial Literacy Month, we're diving deep into three powerful strategies that can transform your financial future: investing, creating merchandise, and developing digital products. These approaches aren't just about making quick cash; they're about building sustainable wealth over time.
Investing often intimidates people who don't understand the terminology or concepts. But here's the truth: you can start with just $20 in the S&P 500 (which has averaged 10% returns for 90 years) or Bitcoin (digital gold with proven long-term growth). The key is consistency—paying yourself first and allowing compound interest to work its magic while you sleep.
For creative minds, designing and selling merchandise offers a fun way to generate income while expressing yourself. Whether it's hoodies, t-shirts, or caps featuring your unique designs, people naturally gravitate toward original items that spark conversations. The best part? You don't need celebrity status to succeed—authenticity resonates more deeply than fame.
The digital products marketplace represents perhaps the most scalable opportunity in today's connected world. By packaging your knowledge into e-books, courses, or downloadable resources, you create assets that can be sold infinitely without additional production costs. Consumers appreciate the convenience of instant access, and you benefit from minimal overhead and global reach.
Whatever path you choose, remember that building wealth isn't about getting rich quickly—it's about consistent effort and strategic planning. Start today, learn continuously, and watch your financial independence grow over time.

Speaker 2:You know it check three times that was good.
Speaker 1:I didn't expect that one. Uh, you guys got to check out, uh, javon's content on his platform. Check three times, man. You got to check out his skill set with the poetry. You know we was at the event last Wednesday, man, and you know you do your thing so well. I try to follow up, but I still can't do that. Still don't have the skill set, man. But I got to do something, man, you're going to have to be my ghostwriter. Can poets have a ghostwriter? Can't do that, you don't have the skill set, man. But I gotta do something, man. You gotta go out to be my ghost writer.
Speaker 2:Can always have a ghost writer you know, I think, I think we could, uh, we can make that happen yeah, make that happen, I can memorize it yeah, you don't need gotta do that all right cool.
Speaker 1:So look, it's uh, still april, it's still financial literacy month, pops and son is giving you what you need when we talk about extra income, and so the prior episode, we gave you three solid ways to make some additional income and jay. But we're gonna do it again, man.
Speaker 1:We're gonna give them three more this episode, man okay let's let's bless our listeners, because we're very thankful for you guys loyalty and your consistency, and so that motivates us to do better and better each and every opportunity we have right couldn't have said it better myself, pop, but you know this is this.
Speaker 2:This one is going to be good. This is what they really need. You know, last episode, we gave some you know some really good quick entry not really, you know, not too hard to grasp the concept. This first one, though, you know I want to talk about. You know some long-term wealth, right, and this one is what you're this is going to be, what is bringing in income over time. You know no-transcript, so it's not just just a fast money, but you know investing. You know number one we'll go with investing.
Speaker 2:You know investing is the game that some people are afraid to play, right, I know, growing up, you know I would hear, like you know, stocks, s&p 500. I didn't know what it was, so I just kind of shied away from it. And now you know, with crypto going around, you know people don't know how to feel about crypto. They don't know if it's a scam or if it's, you know, really real, or what it is. So you know I got some advice when it goes. When it comes to that, you know.
Speaker 2:One thing I would say, though, is you could start. Start small, you know. You don't have to dump all your money in. You know it's about, you know, kind of being incremental. So you could start with, you know, 50 bucks, 20 bucks, and you know the S&P 500 has averaged around 10% returns for the past 90 years. So it's a pretty, pretty safe bet. You know, if you just put your money there consistently, let it chill, don't touch it, it's going to grow while you sleep, like it's.
Speaker 2:You know it's proven, it's a real passive income and on the crypto side, bitcoin is the same way. You know, since Bitcoin has come out, you know it's, yeah, it rises and it falls, but overall, over time it's only risen over time, you know. So it's a safe bet that you know they call it the digital gold for a reason. You know it's only going to go rise because the way it's set up to be the word is scarce, right, the scarcity of it. There's only so many Bitcoin that could ever be mined in the history of Bitcoin. So once it hits that cap, you know whatever you have is what you have. So the rarity, the scarcity of it makes a price and the value of it go up more. So you want to get you some Bitcoin. Same thing.
Speaker 2:They call it DCA daily cost average where you could just put in however much you want a week, a month period, but it's kind of like you don't want to miss that train, you don't want to be the person that didn't invest anything and then, 10 years later, anybody that put 10 or 15 bucks in there has got a couple stacks. Anybody that put 10 or 15 bucks in there has got, like, you know, a couple, a couple stacks. You know so, um, definitely, investing is is is a big deal, um and and, like I said, you don't have to go all in. You just have to start somewhere, um, and get in the habit of paying yourself first. You know, um, if you spend money every month, why not invest every month?
Speaker 1:if you spend money every month, why not invest every month? Oh, and just a disclaimer, we are not given financial advice. We are not financial consultants as well. We're just kind of giving you guys some of the things that we've come across. And, of course, investing is always a risk. There's no guaranteed returns. So you definitely want to find you know your threshold, make sure that you have a financial planner when you're getting into any type of investing. So you know, we're kind of giving you guys what we've experienced, what we've dealt with in our course of the investing.
Speaker 1:So there's some very, very simple investing methods, of course. But you know, jay, you made some really good points. Man, pay yourself first. A lot of people they get paid and they go straight to, you know, swapping a card to pay their bills and they don't pay themselves first, and so that is. You know, that's something that I had to learn as an adult, because the paycheck comes in and you're so worried about paying the bills and paying them on time and you forget that you need to make sure that you save and you need to make sure that you invest. Those are two things to me are more important than bills, because we're talking about long-term. So that means you have to be very strategic with how you spend your money.
Speaker 2:All right, yeah, and it can. You know it can get tricky and it's one of those things that you know. Often you just kind of have to trust the process, trust yourself and maybe even take a leap of faith because in the end you know it's going to work out better for you in your situation. You know investing is one of those things. Like you know millionaires, billionaires, they'll tell you. You know investments is where a lot of you know a lot of the income comes from and it's that passive, you know you don't really have to worry about it. So, like you said, not no financial advice given, but just tools and tips, something to think about. You know, do your own research, find what works best for you. But it definitely should be. You know, in your Rolodex and your lexicon of ways to earn, you know, additional income.
Speaker 1:Absolutely, and I'll just finish it up with this. Don't forget, when you talk about investing, you're investing in yourself. So, as we talked about prior, to taking some time to get additional certifications and educating yourself and giving yourself the proper tools that's part of investing in yourself as well proper tools that's part of investing in yourself as well you have to do that. You have to bet on yourself if you're going to win. Yeah, Make sure that you keep that in mind, that the best investment is going to be you. And then you go from there. And you know, we encourage you to continue to do that and learn, because it's a learning experience and it's going to take some progress. It's going to take some confidence. It's going to take some progress. It's going to take some confidence. It's going to take some consistency. So get on out there and invest in yourself. All right, what else we got there? All right.
Speaker 2:So number two we're going to go with creating your own merch or, you know, like an online business. E-commerce type of feel is another big one. You know we talk about making money while we sleep and things like that. You know, but you could be making money while you're chilling in the hoodie that you designed. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, or a T-shirt or a cap or whatever it is, and I like this one too, because it brings out the creative side as well.
Speaker 2:Fashion is one of those things. As humans, we like to look good and we like to be different. It's a way for us to express ourselves, you know. So, creating like your own merch or something that's kind of, you know, teeing off your own brand, whatever the case may be. You know, last episode we talked about creating a content channel. This could be another step up from that. You know, branding yourself and people connect with you. From that branding yourself and people connect with you. And now they want to rock your logo or they want to rock a shirt with something you drew or you designed or something like that. So it's really a good way to let your creativity speak.
Speaker 2:And this is another cool thing you don't have to be some famous person. You know you don't have to be, you know, some famous person. You know you just got to be genuine. You know, promote your message or promote whatever your passion is. You know, come up with a cool little slogan or a phrase, a vibe. Whatever the case is, you know, just be you at the end of the day Because, like I said, we like to buy things that you know nobody else has. It's unique conversation pieces or conversation starters, like where'd you get that hat? Or where'd you get that hoodie? That's cool. So you know you could easily be, you know, be that person that provides that experience for somebody else. So, you know, creating your own merch is one way, you know, to tackle the online biz or e-commerce lane.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, I love that. And for those of you that are, like me, close to 50 or over 45, merch is short for merchandise.
Speaker 1:Let's be very clear but I don't know where this merch. You youngsters merch like you got to understand that us seasoned folks don't know what that means all the time. So we're talking about merchandise. So we're talking about hats, shirts, pins, stationary, you know hoodies, pants, whatever you, whatever you desire, umbrellas any type of merchandise that can be seen and utilized, showing and representing. You know your brand and I really love that. Matter of fact, you know you can go to our website and grab our merch. You can grab our T-shirts.
Speaker 1:Hoodie, we got some really cool Pops and Son, father and Son, uh, stuff, some merch. So, you know, make sure you go to our website, pops and son conversationscom, and grab a nice shirt, man, because it's it's a good season to to rock out on on that and we really want to encourage the father and sons to take a look at our merch. And, ladies, you know you get. It's getting close to Father's Day. I know it's Mother's Day first, but y'all going to get what you get. Like folks is going all out to make sure the moms get everything she needs, man, but when it comes to Father's Day, oh man, here come the ties and socks, man. And it's not even the ties and socks that we wear, man, that's standard, standard pack they start experimenting when they get the ties and socks, man.
Speaker 1:So that's interesting, uh. But but again, uh, merch merchandise is definitely the way to go. Please do not overthink it. You know, whatever your logo is, whatever your pictures are, you get to use and utilize original ideas and people are going to love it because there's going to be somebody that relates. If you like cats and dogs, you got a lizard in your house, uh, you got two cockroaches and a spider that you can jar. I mean, you know people are going to gravitate to it because it's different and everybody truly enjoys originality.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that's it. Originality is key and you know it's fun too. You know it can be fun. You know I've seen people, you know, start from the ground up. I got a buddy that you know he's doing his thing with the shirts and you know you start with one, two designs and you just build up and you build a community around it. So you know it can be fun, a fun way to get some, you know, some additional, some additional money, new income stream.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, I love that. So let's jump into the last one here for you guys. I'm going to jump in because this is one of my favorite opportunities, is what I consider it. So we're talking about three additional ways to earn income. This one here is digital products. We're in the digital age. Digital products make sense. What is your takeaway when it comes to digital products in 2025, jay?
Speaker 2:I think digital products are really. You know it's the future. You know everything that we are moving toward. You know physical print media is kind of declining more and more with the advent of. You know these smartphones and what we do on our phones where we could see audio books, and you know different courses, e-books all these different types of things have just become more convenient to consume. Right Now we got stuff like Apple Pay and Google Pay on our phones so we could get an audio book. You know, say it's two, three bucks, double tap, click it's downloaded right there. We could listen to it immediately. You know, say it's two, three bucks, double tap, click it's downloaded right there. We can listen to it immediately. You know what I mean. So the convenience and just being having the access to these different type of resources are really, you know, it's really revolutionary. It's something new.
Speaker 2:Still, I think that a lot of people don't really understand how they could implement it and start making money from it. But you know, the process is really simple. You've already got. You know, like we said previously, start your content journey. You know what I mean. Start sharing your passion or your project, whatever it is you have, and now the next step is creating, you know, packaging that up into something that somebody could digest via, you know, e-book, something like that. Maybe it's a course of some sort where they're learning directly from you.
Speaker 2:You know, more intimate setting, getting the real, the lowdown on how you were able to accomplish whatever it is that you accomplished. You know people love primary sources. Primary source is going to be the best way to get your information because you're going straight to, you know, to the source, the person that is doing what you like. You know, whatever it is you like to see them do, they're doing it and now they're showing you how to get it done. So you know it's a really good way to you know, sell your services and you know it's a genuine connection right, because people are really seeing you, know you for you, and you know it could also be fun just kind of figuring out you know how you want to share it and things like that. So, yeah, digital products is the way. I think we're going to see a lot more of that coming real soon.
Speaker 1:Yep, yeah for sure. Digital products, digital marketing it's a very simple process. It's actually something that we do anyway. Marketing it's a very simple process and it's actually something that we do anyway. You know we're looking at simple ways to earn income, to do everything, literally virtually Everything is done online. We already know that we're in that age of things are done online. So where you would normally send your book and don't don't get it twisted Hardback books, traditional books, are still valuable.
Speaker 1:That is the only way that you can actually get a signature on there. So you have to keep keep in mind that you know the value is still there. But if we're talking about additional income and we're talking about being able to service the masses Right, so we're talking about international. We're talking about, you know, worldwide digital. If we're purchasing, you know some type of sales or marketing program. You know, instead of waiting for that hardback book to come in the mail, you can download it and you can go through.
Speaker 1:You know the series of chapters and learn from there. And it's easier to keep around because you know me, man, I do not like having a bunch of papers and paperwork. You know that's aggravating to me. So I always want to be able to go to an email or be able to go to something I've already downloaded and just open it back up and just get right to it. So you know, digital products have been the wave for a long, long time, so we want you guys not to be scared of it, you know. Embrace it. It's going to be new, it's going to be different, but again, it is an additional way to get yourself some income and I can't think of anything faster when it comes to delivery and transactional than a digital exchange.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, that's very true. And then the entry is fairly simple as well. There are several different types of websites you could create your account on and just upload what you have and boom, there it is Share your link or share to your followers. You know what you have, coming down the pipeline and where they could go and get it, and you know very, very seamless way to to get your services out there and get people to you know to invest and buy what you got. So another great, another great stream, another great one. You know we I think we three for three. That was.
Speaker 1:We three for three, so we could just run down for you guys. We gave you three additional ways to earn income. Uh, the first one was investing, and that's not just you know, money, uh currency, that's invested in yourself. Uh, getting yourself some additional education, uh, additional skillset and, of course, money so you can multiply your coins. The second one we talked about was merch, aka merchandise. So that's you know, your hats, your shirts, your slippers, things that you know that you like, that other people will enjoy as well, but it's personalized. So it's your merch, your merchandise. And finally, digital products. Do not sleep on digital products, digital marketing, because you have to think about it. You probably saw the advertisement from this podcast on social media. That's digital marketing. Our digital product is this podcast where we can actually give folks some additional information, we can get them perspective and today, man, we just kind of blessed you guys with some additional income earning potential.
Speaker 2:Yeah. So, with that being said, you have, you know, no time to waste. You know everything we mentioned. You could get started on these things today and start seeing some, you know, some profits and some changes and some income come in, you know, within a few weeks time, if you really put your head down and get to work. So you know pops and sun conversations where we talk about, you know, everything under the sun this week is financial literacy. So you know, feels really good to. You know, drop some gems and just encourage people and help them along their financial journey. So we hope that you guys got some, you know, got some good tidbits from this and you'll go ahead and apply it and share it with somebody else. You know, share this podcast with your friends, your family, somebody looking to make some extra money, which I know you know somebody out there was trying to do that Right, yep.
Speaker 1:So that's all we got, yeah, and if you need help, reach out to us. That's what we're here for. So we'll see you guys next episode, peace.
