What If Your Habits Are Your Legacy
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
LeBron James, Michael Jordan, and the GOAT debate are fun until you realize what we’re really arguing about: legacy, control, and who gets judged for making power moves. We start with some classic Pops and Son energy and then get straight to it, breaking down top-three lists, rings culture, era dominance, and why LeBron’s longevity forces a different kind of respect. If you love NBA conversations that sound like real people instead of hot-take TV, this one’s for you.
Then the tone shifts. We talk about the Nolan Welch case, the questions around the investigation, and why families deserve clarity instead of confusion. We wrestle with being objective while also acknowledging how race and the U.S. justice system shape outcomes and public trust. It’s not about chasing drama; it’s about accountability, empathy, and why “someone knows something” hits so hard when the process feels slow.
From there we hit culture and business: hip hop’s longevity after 50 years, OG artists still dropping quality projects, and why TikTok now drives music marketing and attention. We talk viral moments like the Usher and Chris Brown concert buzz, how artists protect the narrative, and why collaboration is a cheat code across any industry. We close with the real-life toolkit: money mindset, affirmations, income generating activity, stable income while you build, and the healthy habits that make your 30s, 40s, and beyond stronger mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Cold Open And Quick Catch-Up
SPEAKER_00Rolling. Yo, I feel like we gotta keep that door for circulation purposes. Oh yeah. Bro, this is uh cooking, literally. Straight up. Alright. Let's see 934. The date ain't right though. Alright, so what up, y'all? Welcome to another edition of Pops and Sun Conversations. As always, your favorite self fox Rob Malloy. You already know who it is. Triple C check three times. Come on, man. And there it is. Look, we we doing um, I don't know what edition we're gonna call this, but but this is definitely one of those ones where we're gonna get right into it. Yeah. We jumping right into it. Right into it. What you drinking though? Hey, classified. That's classified info. Okay. Because I just started drinking this grapefruit juice. Oh, grapefruit juice. Okay, that's the thing. Yeah, I didn't know it was that good. Yeah, man. It's amazing. I love it. I love it. Matter of fact, we need to look and see if we can get them to sponsor our show, man. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I thought you were gonna say we need to see if we could get one made. We could get our own grapefruit props to sign. We we could, huh? That would go crazy. Hey, stay on the f for the freshman. With their own. Yeah, ain't nobody doing that. Nah, that's good, man. Matter of fact, you shouldn't even say that. Now we got. Oh, man. Now we gotta hurry up and do it. Yeah, yeah, we gotta do it. We gotta delay this episode. By the time we publish it, we got a link. Yeah, yeah, straight up. Just click this link right here. We're gonna flash up. Nah. Right. Yeah, we gotta do that, though. That's for sure. Uh so speaking of press. Press. Uh, I I want to talk about, man, what's what's been pushing all over the internet. And uh, you know, we talk about this all the time. Uh, your boy LBJ, right? Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah. So I want to talk about LBJ. First of all, let me let me ask you when it comes to the NBA, who is your top three all-time players? All right, I gotta be honest. Okay. I'm not even really a basketball fan like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I ain't really watch a lot of basketball. But as a casual, as a super casual, okay, I like uh Steph. Okay. I was just always a Steph fan. He just seemed, he's like a cool guy. He seemed like
LeBron Vs Jordan GOAT Talk
SPEAKER_00I like um James Harden. Okay. And then um, I ain't gonna lie, Kobe. You said top three, right? Yeah, top three. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I'm gonna get that topic. All time, that's who you got? Yeah, just like all around, but just not no specific uh. You know, them some stellar players right there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So me being a student, right? So I kind of I kind of go all the way back to where it was black and white, right? Now that I watch that, and I'm not even interested in the black and white. Like I don't even want to see it, right? Right. But taking that in consideration, I'm gonna go with um Kobe as third. Okay. Yeah, Kobe, LeBron, and uh Michael Air Jordan. Dang, I forget about Mike. I don't know. I just let you do your thing, though. But you know, but but to be honest, I don't know, man. You're not in my top three. Yeah, that's all right. That's blasphemy, right? That's crazy. No, I don't, no, I think that everybody should have whatever their preference is. Like, you know, some folk may say Jokic. Okay. You know, they can talk about Jokic to go. That's the demo I done. It's a demo for that. So on mine, but but knowing what I know and watching all three of them in their prime, you know, I just think the dominance of Mike uh in his era, he was just so way above. He was just superior. Yeah. Even though there was Magic Bird, Isaiah, and Kareem and all that, but he was just like superior athlete. That his talents and guests finally caught up with his skill set. So that's why he started dominating with those six rings, right? So, so so what what's your position on the LeBron and Michael conversation? Yeah. Like who's the real GOAT? Yeah, yeah. So um, I I don't subscribe to just being one GOAT. I believe that it's it's uh according to your era. Okay. And then be honest, like you said, man, Steph and LeBron was kind of in the same era, and they went head to head. Right. I don't know what the numbers are, but I know that that Steph and the Warriors dominated, man.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00That like they was uh a dynasty. Oh yeah, for sure. You know what I mean? And that was during LeBron's reign when he was prime. So um so I don't know, man. But according to each era, I just know MJ dominated um his era. And I would say when it came to longevity, I mean, LBJ all day long. You got to. You have to. It's like he ain't gonna stop. You can't even disrespect because he played on such a high level. Yeah. He played on such a high level that the only thing people had on him is his hairline. Oh man. You you can't even talk about his game. You gotta start talking about his hairline. I think he finally started wiggle. He did, yeah. He did, man. He came home. Welcome to the club. Welcome to the club. It feels good, man. It feels good. You ain't got to deal with this right here, man. Look, everybody just going bald dealt with this. You try to figure out what to do. If you got enough hair, can you do a carbon over? Can you can you spray paint it? Would you have ever, because you know they got the pieces. Like they got the yeah. You never considered doing it? Yeah, of course. Oh, okay. I would say I may still do one. Don't be surprised when I got a full mobile, bro. We got matching noggins on. It's gonna be, it's gonna, it's gonna be, it's gonna be match the beard. So it ain't gonna be black. Oh, that'll be cold. Yeah, it's gonna match. So stay tuned, man. Uh, uh all the uh the specialists out there, with the the hair unit specialist. Yeah, that man. Yeah, hit me up, man. I'm about to be able to put you on, man. Transformation. Ambassador. Now I ain't gonna wear it all the time. Like some days I'm still gonna be bald, right? Oh, yeah. So it's just gonna be hey, hey, it's we gonna feel in the back. Take the top off the maybe. Pull up to the scene. So check it out. Oh, with the seven in the street. Speaking of LeBron, let's let's stay there. Yeah, yeah. Because uh he's obviously a major, major uh topic in in basketball. Yeah, everywhere. Like everywhere, right? Um, he did take some of the pressure off of Bronny. Because, you know, they uh it was on Bronny. Oh man, that was so disrespectful with him. So I like him going over to the Sixers, and you know, this uh has always been an issue when they talk about the ring chaser and stuff like that. Yeah. But but when I when I looked at it, I was like, every team he went to, he won a chip with him. Right. Every single team, even if it was one chip, he still won one. Yeah. So if he messes around and goes to Philly and get at least one chip with them, yeah, that's that's gonna be hard to deny, man. Yeah, it is. I mean, at the
Rings, Team Moves, And Control
SPEAKER_00end of the day, that's what really matters, right? I think so. Is the rings, how many of them you got? Yeah. I mean, that that may even put him, I hate to say it, that may put him over MJ. Because you gotta think MJ went over to the Wizards, right? Towards the end of his career. Oh, did he? And it was like uh it was a bad look. It was a bad farewell. They don't talk about that. That's that's they shouldn't. I don't even want to talk about it. Strike it from the record. What did I say? MJ, no disrespect. Strike it from the record. Keep sending me the J's, though. All right, keep sending me the J's, man. So uh so I like him going over there to the Sixers. Obviously, it's already a good team. Uh they got Jalen Brown from the Celtics over there. Uh MB, even though he's injury prone, if they can get 70 to 80%, he's still better than 95% of the centers out there. Right. One of my homies was telling me was like one of the reasons that Mbi is always injured, though, is because he plays so much. Like he's never really, yeah, he got a lot of minutes. So with Brian coming in, you know, he could get some more bench time to actually, you know what I'm saying, to be able to play at a high caliber more often. Yeah, yeah, and he's one of those where I think when you start talking about minutes control, you know, control of those minutes, he he's a big guy, and you know, we already know how big men are prone. Feet, ankles, and things like that. So I think that Philly is gonna be, I think they're gonna come out the east, and um, I don't know if they'll win it the first year. They could, though, because it's gonna be hard to beat all them guys four out of seven times. Yeah. You might get two off. Yeah. But game seven, I don't think LeBron, Jalen Brown, and then be gonna let you get that game seven out of. Yeah, it's gonna be interesting. Yeah, so uh, so LeBron, man, again, I wish you the best. Uh I I love what he's done for the game. Uh, and and and the last thing, and we'll move on, I want to talk about with what LeBron is they're talking about him moving to different teams, right? Yeah, you know, with the whole ring chase scenario, right? But I look at it like this. So the goal is to win a chip, right? Right. That's all. Nobody, nobody talks about how the owners are making moves to get the pieces to win the chip. Oh, yeah. Why you why how are you blaming a player and he's only one person? Right, right, right. Right? So the owner will not tell you that you traded. Yeah. You'll learn about it on the news or through social media, and they've just been doing players dirty for decades, right? So why not take full control of your career if you can? Yeah, you can't be mad at that. You shouldn't. Yeah, but then you know, everybody should be mad about something. Somebody eating uh a bowl of uh noodles right now, dogging LeBron out, like their opinion matters. Who cares what that guy is talking about, man? Yeah. I don't care. But so man, so shout out to uh Braun. Wish you the best. And I just really want to see a good a good season. I like I like the fact that no teams are dominating and winning back to back like that. It's almost like one and done since uh since the Lakers. Yeah, I'm gonna catch the highlights.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Right. I'm gonna catch the highlight. I get all my basketball news. I get I mean, just like from my from hairlines and news. I ain't gonna lie. No, I ain't gonna be. So everything I see is from my my news feed. I got an app that just give me all my hairlines. That's how you do it. Yeah, yeah. That's how I do it. That's the cliff notes. Yeah, yeah, keep it well rounded. So I I dig that, man. I dig that. You know, we we will be remiss. I know we're talking about LeBron and we was kind of talking about Bronny a little bit, but I actually want to segment uh a little bit and uh talk about the uh Nolan Welch. Oh, for sure. Because uh we talked about it, you know, on the podcast, and when we talked about it on the podcast, they were still waiting for the second autopsy. Yeah, it was super early. Right? And so, you know, with the news now, man, they started talking about the the medical examiner was crooked. Oh, really? In Mississippi. Yeah, they were saying that the medical examiner was someone who was uh some woman, white woman, who was was was basically saying that the cause of death wasn't what it was. Right. You know
Nolan Welch Case And Justice
SPEAKER_00what I mean? So so somebody who maybe was hurt or unalived or whatever in in in a certain way, now she's saying the reason is unknown. Right. You know, things like that. So the the last um the last I saw her, did you hear those the audio clips from the boat? That was that was crazy. And it's it's crazy because what you hearing, and I you know I try to be objective about this stuff that's so many. Yeah, so many people want to make it a race thing, and I know it's hard to ignore that. Yeah, because I mean it's just right there, it's an elephant in the room. Right. But at the same time, and I and y'all don't kill me for this, but I still feel like we gotta look at some stuff objectively. So on the car they was talking about how the um the boat, uh I I can't remember the exact name of the part, but some stopped working on the boat. Yeah. So they was kind of just standing there, and then they called, they had the um, now it wasn't, it wasn't actually a 911 car. It was like basically whatever it is that's like uh roadside for boats. Okay, so they got the Coast Guard controls up. Well, no, so not even that? Yeah, no, it wasn't because so on the phone call, they asked them if they wanted to send the Coast Guard control. Okay, okay. He was like, no, no, no, no, we good. So then um the the car keeps going on, and they get back on and say, hey, I talked to their grandpa or whoever the owner of the boat is, and he was like, nah, they good, they got it, they got it fixed. So they actually never got nobody sent them out there. Oh wow. So it's but on the call, they they they they say that you could hear them saying, um, how do we how do we cover it up or how do we like saying just like incriminating right? That's that's that's what they're saying on the calls, but when you listen to them, man, it's just it's just tough. Yeah, it's tough, but I I don't want that to be the case, but they're not doing themselves any justice by like how they're moving. Like how the how the how the kids are moving about. Yeah, super suspect. If that was really your friend, yeah, you know, you would think that you would be a little bit more co cooperative, a little bit more forthcoming. Yeah. And the craziest thing about it is the phone. Why did they have the man phone? Why did they say that he said that he was going back to the island and he would catch up with them later. But if that's the case, first off, what teenager is gonna leave? You're not gonna not have it phone. No. So off the rip, that just I think. Here's my phone. Right. Right, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That that I think too many holes, man. Yeah, it just doesn't make sense. I all I want is for justice for the family. Yeah. Because that's that's her explanation. I could only I can only imagine being in that position. I'm sure Pop's like, you know, if it was me, you'll be like, Yeah, you know, I how how do you I can know I just I can't even imagine how they feel. No, I'd I'd be I'd be outraged. Um, I I would be very adamant about getting some answers, right? So it I'm not even listening to you don't know, you can't remember type thing. Because if if one of those, let's just say if, and I'm I'm gonna be honest with you, my personal opinion, as a black man in America, if it was one of the white kids, yeah, I think the suspect would be the black boy. Oh man. Oh, yeah. I think that the I think they would go, I think they would detain the black boy, question him, say he's the suspect, he's the main suspect, and he has to prove his innocence to get out, just to get out of jail. I agree. 1000%. Yeah. I think that it's hard not to come to that conclusion if the roles were reverse. But I mean, that's that's the pattern that we see in the in the judicial system anyway. Like, that's not that's not nothing new, man. Yeah, it's not. It's not. That's why I say I just want justice for the family. They they deserve to know what happened, and if if it was some foul play, then you know, they need to meet their fate. Yeah, you know, my only thing is let's move on from this. But my one of my biggest issues, Jay, is the fact that it to me, it just seems like this process on the judicial side and on the law enforcement side, like they've been dragging their feet. Oh, yeah, for sure. And the reason why I say that is because if it was anyone else, they are detaining the suspects. Right. First and foremost. Yeah. And ain't no, like all of y'all, we're gonna detain all of y'all because number one, they know that somebody's gonna break. Right? But if but the more time that they free and the more time they have access to counsel, the more time that they uh can get their stories unified. You know what I mean? Nah, that's a great point. But but if you detain everybody, even if it's for questioning, right? Yeah. Even if you do that, then then see what those stories are because I've never seen a situation like this to where these kids are now out here doing independent, independent uh interviews. Right. Who wouldn't be comfortable doing that? So that means you're trying to put a dance about it. That's the thing. Get out of here. We're not dumb, man. It's it's insensitive, man. You're not behaving the way that true, that somebody that lost a good friend would be. I don't want to talk about it. I want all all the facts, I want to clear my name. Yeah. And I want all the facts to come uh out so then I don't have to explain nothing. So uh, man, just you know, unfortunate that we have to witness this. You know, some people out here saying that it's a race-based, a race war. No, we're talking about justice. That's it. Because we're talking about a life. Yeah. And even if it was an accident. Yeah. If it was truly an accident and it wasn't something that, you know, was done with malicious intent, yeah, be on, like, come clean about that. Be out. Like, you gotta have some type of estimation. Somebody knows something. Yeah. Somebody knows something. Yeah, and historically, they they still gonna find a way to clear you. Right. We we've seen that. Yeah. So so trust me, if a man can put his knee on somebody's neck for nine minutes and it's recorded, and he's let's let's move on, man. Yeah. Alright, so move moving on, right? Moving on. Yeah, so uh, I do I want to get into a uh topic because um it's been like a wave of in in hip hop and music where the acts that's been in the game for a while, they dropping. They dropping projects, man. Yeah, yeah, yeah. TI dropped. TI, shout out TI. Uh Rick Ross just dropped one. Uh have you did you listen to the to the uh Rick Ross? Yeah, I funny you said that is they have a lot of um tracks together. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. A few. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They have a few. They do. Yeah, I feel like Ross always delivers, though. Yeah. Especially on features. Especially on features. And he got that, oh no, it's it's how like the luxury raps,
Hip Hop Longevity And New Drops
SPEAKER_00when he when he getting in that bag, is nobody that the only person I feel like does it uh that comes close to that is two chains.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Two chains or uh say something that have you thinking like you envisioning it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Very good storyteller. Yeah, yeah, good. Very good storyteller. But I just I just brought that up because you know, recently hip hop did celebrate uh the 50 years, 50 years of hip hop. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And a lot of people always felt like hip-hop, uh rap music was like a young, a young man sport. Okay. I like where this is going. But I like to see that the people that's been in the game still, like it's there's no ceiling to it. Like you could still, you know, and then Jay-Z too. Jay-Z been out here moving around doing the concerts and stuff. Some people say that it's a an album on the way. Okay. I don't know. I'd like to hear it. But yeah, for new Jay-Z, I'm gonna listen to that. Guaranteed. Yeah, I'm gonna listen to that. So I just I just want to shout out, man, hip hop, you know, we still hear rap. I like to see the OGs still doing their thing, still putting music out. Yeah. And uh, and a lot of it sounds better than what what the uh the the younger, the youngest doing. I ain't gonna lie to you. I I would say that the OG uh rapping that you talk of, E hip-hop, because you know, even dating a little bit back, yeah before them, Big Daddy Kane still get down, OJ still get down. Yeah. Like these are legendary uh rappers. Like, nah, you know, all of them still get down, but they are so distinctive. Oh, yeah. When you hear hip hop and rap now, you can mix up rappers. Oh. You you like, oh, I thought that was oh, well, you sound just like you know what I mean? Because the the the the music, yeah, the beats are the same, it is the cadence, it is, you know what I mean? And I and I get it because I think now certain sounds are a little bit more trendy, right? So so they're just trying to ride that wave, right? Right? So so I get that, but It's also a more of an opportunistic industry now.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Because you could be somebody who's not even really a rapper, not even a historian of the game. And you may just you may just find a niche. Right? And I ain't, I'm gonna put it out there. Yeah. Like uh, what's the name? Yachty? Is it Lil' Yacht? No, no, you're not gonna disrespect. I got, I'm not disrespecting, but I'm just saying, Uzi, Lil Uzi, Ver, Yachty, they had a niche, right? I don't think they had a real good skill set. Like if you if you was like, yo, put something together right now, it's not gonna have a lot of dimension. Hey, all my Uzi fans, that is my dad's opinion. That's right. I'm standing on him. I do not stand by that. Shout out Uzi. We just got the new EP. Oh, so you do know. Yeah, people. Yeah, I like Uzi. Okay, that's about Yachty too. Okay. But see, here's the thing. Those two, it's funny that you mention those two because believe it or not, Yachty and Uzi are like, for their generation, they are iconic. Yeah, they're the ones. I like their music. I'm not saying I don't like their music either. They're the ones, though. They're the ones that people maybe be copycatting, is what you're telling me, almost. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's right. Nah, that's true. They trend setters in their era. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They definitely set a trend. But like you said, it is. But I think a lot of it is TikTok, man. TikTok with the like, it's they the wave. A lot of music now is blowing. People don't really listen to the radio like that. Nah. So breaking a song on a radio is not, that's not the way it is anymore. So people are doing on TikTok whatever is going to get people to get the sound to go viral. It's how many songs out there. That's true. That's true. Just only from TikTok. TikTok, now that it has been Americanized, because you know, they definitely snatched it up from China, right? They don't want us to know that, but you know, we we know that the U.S. done snatched it up. Right. So um, but now you you do have to, that's that's the means of of communication. That's what people they're stuck on. Um, TikTok. And because remember, TikTok took a it took a hit. Remember, they was talking about, you know, they're not monetizing nobody. You gotta do ban and all that. So it took a hit, but it was way too much money. That money started talking again. Yeah, TikTok is not going anywhere. I wouldn't be surprised if they started turning TVs the other way, just so you not even watch, you just scrolling, you just watching, yeah, vertical TikToks on. I mean So you look so you basically on a huge tablet, right? Tablet, right? You on a straight tablet. Yeah. Um that's the future, man. That's the future. And let me grab this real quick. So um that is exactly, that's exactly what's going on. Um the the the vertical. You know, so they do they doing vertical with everything now. Yeah. Series. So you know what's super popular right now? Yeah. If you go in the app store right now and look at the top apps, it's like five or six apps that are literally, like you said, vertical drama apps. Right. It's right there in the description. Yeah. Drama, yeah, drama short series, clips, and it's nothing but like TikTok style video, but it's a whole series of people watching the whole series. They do have those, those, those brickle series. Dedicated apps to it, though. That's true. That's true. Yeah, it's crazy how it's how it's, you know, man, we yeah, we came a long way from from the box, the big box TV, box TV, man. Hey, not only big box, but big booty. Remember big booty in the back. Yeah, antennas and all types of things. That is that is wild, man. Yeah. That uh that wifi done changed the game, man. Man, shout out to Wi-Fi. Can't live without it. Why is it that you are so frustrated when a Wi-Fi Like that's uh uh it's becoming a Yeah, it's crazy. Uh uh uh if you don't have signal or Wi-Fi, you just mad. You're going nuts. We gotta do better. You you know. We gotta get back to the room. No, man, it's crazy. You know, so so what I've done is I've actually taken some time to where I'll put the phone in in another room.
TikTok Culture And Phone Discipline
SPEAKER_00So when I need to go into the office or when I need to be studying something, you know, writing something, the phone is over there. Like, of course, you know, I won't go three, four hours in case of an emergency. Right. But I I can dedicate one hour minus the phone because what will happen is you'll get a phone call, even though you're like, look, I'm working on a project, I need you back later, right? Since it's there, well, let me go ahead and scroll. Let me check my text message. Let me go ahead and see what's happening. Yeah, yeah. Let me check the DM. It's I don't know, it's so uh addicting. It's tough, man. Yeah, it is. Oh, speaking of uh uh uh addictions, right? Oh look. I have to admit that now I'm fully vested in the the RB, the uh Raymond and Brown concert, right? Now they got me interested because and both of those, those those are my I like those guys. Yeah, that's whoever put that together. That was a that was gene. That was genius, right? That was genius. They weren't gonna do the verses. There's no need to, right? Yeah, they wouldn't do it. Right. Why compete with each other? They make way more money doing uh a concert like that. You get it all the fan base now. So now people that may not have liked CB like that or Usher like that. It don't even matter. Hey, we know somebody don't like Usher. The chick that uh I don't know. I don't even know the girl now. Oh man. I know you saw that. The one that went up there? Yeah, she was just looking straight face, Usher was trying to do his thing. Why she disrespect a man like that? She didn't have to do all that. If you up there, go through the performance, because it's a performance. Yeah. Get your, get your, you're gonna go viral in because she's fine, number one. Oh, yeah, yeah. She's a beautiful one. So you're gonna go viral off your aesthetics. Already. So why not just let that be positive, right? On a positive note. I don't know, but how how do you feel about how he handled it? Do you think he did he? How you gotta find it? Yeah, he was just like. Yeah, I mean, that's what you gotta do, but you gotta control the narrative. That's just how you have to run it, because it's your situation. Yeah, he didn't have a lot of options. No, no. But you know what though? When I when I looked at it, and I didn't look at it a whole bunch of times, because I just watched whatever the clip was. Right. She didn't seem like she was really dissing him. She just wasn't overhyped like most of the women. She didn't do it. But she wasn't like you stanking. Yeah, yeah. She didn't make like no crazy face to none of the things. Still looking him up and down. Right, right. Right? So she was feeling the situation, but I think people just really took it and ran. I don't know what I'm saying. You might have could have played it off a little bit. Yeah. Nah, but as a boss, you gotta handle that, man. Just to control the narrative, right? Get her out of here. Get her out of here. Yeah, I ain't mad at it.
Usher, Chris Brown, And Going Viral
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I ain't mad. Yeah, I ain't mad. Yeah, you gotta get up out of here. Because the position you in right now, yeah, because when you think about it, it's a thousand other different women that would do what the other ones have been doing. Right. Well, so it helped him because now when women do go up there, they like, look, I ain't even gonna do you like. Oh, yeah, you ain't finna tell them to the blue. Right, right, right, yeah. Now, one thing that I do want to know about it, has TV ever had that issue before? What you think? Many women be going crazy for that man. Jerry, he, he, he 1,000 for 1,000? She she says that's why she was there. Oh, she was there for that. That's what she said. She said they didn't tell her who she was gonna be on the stage with. They just asked if she wanted to go on the stage. Okay, okay. So if it hadn't been Chris Brown, then you know she would have done everything, the the whole shabby. She would have risked it off. Yeah, yeah, risked it. Matter of fact, they said she got a man at the club. Yeah. She got a boyfriend. Why you why you went out there? That's what I was thinking in my head. You know what, though? How does the how does he feel? Uh, man, you know that that's really tough. And I don't even really want to get into that because now in my head, for some reason, I'm thinking about Kiki Palmer. Oh, I remember that. Why am I thinking about that? I remember that. And she was, she was she didn't give a fish. That was not right. That was not right. And I think the women were siding with Kiki on that one. Yeah, yeah, they was they was willing to. I I think a lot of women. Kiki was dead wrong for that. Yeah, you was wrong. You was wrong. You was wrong because really you ain't even got to do that. Right, you ain't got to do that. Like y'all could have did some scripted content or something like that to make everybody Dang, it's crazy how much. I just forgot about that. Yeah, I think I totally forgot. I think that's a good one. But but look, so why so you got the Kiki Palmer situation, right? That was with CB or Usher. Uh no, that was Usher. That was Usher, yeah, right. And then now when I think about it, now I'm thinking Alicia Kings. What Alicia Kings? At the Super Bowl. Remember, they was kind of booed up. Remember, he was kind of like behind her. Oh, yeah, I do remember that. I do remember that. Why am I thinking about this stuff, man? What I got going on? What kind of issues I got going on, man? Hey, man. These RB, that's RB singers, man. They got it, bro. You you you know, man, deep in my heart, man, I was supposed to be an RB singer, though. It ain't too late. Yeah, but my vote was a trash. They got auto-tune. That's true. Man, you get it. I'm tripping, right? It's not a problem. It's not a problem. It's not a problem. You can put a little EP out, four or five. You know what? You know what? Hey. The music video is crazy. You know what? It's cracking. For real. I'm glad you said that. Yeah, man. Music video. Favors 205 presents. Yeah. Ooh. Okay. Yeah, I can I can see like, you know, I can see some uh some slow, some slow down. Now, now the good part about it is though, you can get in there and do some spoken word, and yours will be that'll give you the authentic feel too. Oh yeah, yeah, for sure. Right? Oh, yeah, coming out. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. We got together. We gotta call our people, man. Yeah. Hey, people watching that, hey, hit us up so we can put that together. Yeah, we gotta do that like before the summer's over. Before the summer's over. So we gotta do that like soon. Um, yeah, so that that whole Usher CB. But but shout out to them for doing something that, and I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be frank, doing something that people in other cultures have been doing for a long time when it comes to collaborations. Oh, yeah, collaborations. Big superstars, they'll come together and make the bigger bag and bigger impact. Yeah, you don't see that often. Nah, man. Like country, like country music. Hey, them guys will get it in. Yeah, yeah, yeah, they will. And fill up arenas. Yeah, country is crazy right now. I don't really, it's not really my forte, but it's super popular. Yeah. It's so popular right now, I think somebody just told me uh Waka, Waka Flacca got a uh a country song out. Probably. I think um, who else? Man, I I just a lot of hip hop artists are doing country now. It's crazy. Like, why? I mean, I say why not though? Because if if you go back and do the history, uh I I believe country uh started out uh with a black with a black dude. I'm not surprised. Yeah, yeah, I I believe so. Just like rock and roll. Yeah, yeah, I know about rock. So uh, yeah, yeah, I forgot the I forgot the guy. We'll have to do the the research on that, but I I do believe so. But uh shout out to all the collabs. I think that's important, man, to do that in whatever industry you in, because you you can't service every single person because everybody ain't gonna like you. Right? So you can't go in there thinking that you're gonna get 100% success rate with every single person. Yeah. So why not collab, man? Get all of the audience together. So I think that'd be most important. Yeah, we need more of that. More of that. We need more of that. Yeah, so um, let's talk about bread, man. Let's talk about money. Come on, let's do it. And the reason why I like money, the reason why I want to talk about money is because there's so many different things going on, how people can make money. I think that there's a surplus of broke. Of broke folks. And what I'm saying, Jay, is from a from a mentality standpoint. Let me tell you why, because you know, and I know you heard it before, people don't have a problem calling themselves broke.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Have you seen that before?
SPEAKER_00You did, though. We corrected that. Yeah, yeah, we did. Mentality. But yeah, so mentality for sure. Because when when you think about it, really, to get out of a broke mentality or even get out of a financially broke situation, you have to think of uh uh uh a solution of uh problems for the masses. Right. And so your mask don't have to be a million people, your mask can be 5,000 people. Yeah so what if you have a product for 5,000 people and your service is a hundred uh hundred dollars? How much is a hundred dollars times five thousand people? Is that 500k? I was about to say, don't ask me to do math if I need a county. It's either 50k or 500k. 500K. And so what if it takes you a year? What if it takes you a year? Nah, I mean two years. And that's, I mean, that's even on the kind of on the high end when we think about it. Right. Even if it's 500 people, right? You know what I'm saying? That's still money that's gonna change your situation. It is. So you gotta you you I think a lot of times we we overthink and we try to think that uh things are unattainable. Right? But when you kind of chunk it off or section it off or set like goals and achievements to get to that bigger number, yeah, it becomes a lot easier to process. Facts. Other than thinking that, oh man, how am I gonna go from zero to 500k? Well, no, you some maybe some people can do that, but I think that the majority of people probably have some gradual steps that lead up to it as they earn more and then more opportunities open, they continue to earn. So, like we said, that's mindset first, though. Mindset. Because you gotta you gotta figure out how to shift from thinking in that broke mentality. And it's tough, man. That's the thing about it is it's like when you when you're in it when your circumstances don't reflect, you know what I'm saying, how how you envision your life or whatever um you know goals you set, it's tough to to imagine better than that. Because you know, we gotta wake up every day and live our lives, and we gotta, you know, work or grind and deal with just all the regular life stuff. And then on top of that, you're worried about your finances. So I'll tell you one thing though, energy is real. Yes. So you could spend a lot of energy, you know, worrying or stressing, or you could convert that energy to something productive. Yeah, I call it um income generating activity, IgAs. Okay. Right? It also uh IgA, income generating attitude. Yeah. Oh, the attitude. Yeah, so I think
Money Mindset And Income Activities
SPEAKER_00that that and that's something that you can control. You can control your activities and you can control your your attitude. So how how you approach something and you actually execute and that's so you can not do nothing, right, and then get those results, or you can complain about it and not get any results, right? Or you can do something about it and and really, man, I think one shoot, like you said, if you can um just take it in short-term goals and short-term, they say uh, you know, if if you celebrate the wins, then it's an overall victory. Just celebrate what some people call small wins. I call a win-a-win. Win a win. That's gonna feel good. I was just about to say that. A win feel good, whether it's big or small, it don't matter. You know, you won, man, you won. It feels good. It feels good to win, for sure. It does. And uh one thing that I will say also is I do believe in having some stable income. Now, I've been an entrepreneur now for a long time. And I had great months, great weeks, and then I had where I made zip zero, stingy with the Neroes. Winter is coming. Right. And so don't quit your job, right? And don't quit your job trying to do something full-time because you want your job or your employment or your hustle, whatever your gig to finance and fund, you know, uh whatever that activity is. And even that activity may not be the overall business, but it may be something that's gonna generate that income to help supplement so you don't have to work so hard on this end. Yeah. Right? So ultimately, it may fund your actual business, and then when you have funds from your business, you can start doing your passion.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And you're gonna do it differently now, right? Yeah. Right? So you ain't stressing about the insurance, you know you you $200 short on the car note, whatever. Now you're just trying to get through stuff. And everything's transactional, right? Yeah, so you can get to your past in order to do what you love to do, man. And it sounds so, you know, as we talk about this, you know, I know people listening are gonna be like, yeah, man. Of course, like that it sounds so easy to do that. Yeah. But the thing about it is, if it if you have, if you are saying that, you probably one of those people that haven't changed your mindset yet. Big old facts, man. You probably are still in the mindset of where am I gonna get the money from? I'm broke, I I I I I I gotta dig myself. But are you celebrating your wins? Are you are you are you scheduling your your life around how you're going to get out of that situation? Like man, at the end of the day, you know, we all humans, and we're built to survive. Yeah. Like, you know, man, the scientists will tell you, really, we're not even supposed to be like the planet, planet Earth literally has all these natural disasters, animals, predators, that's that's meant to kill us. But us humans, bro, we are so magnificent, we're so smart that we overcame all that. Look at what we built. Like, you can't just look at the external world and not feel great. Yeah. Because our species have done so many things, especially us black men, black people. You know what I'm saying? So you gotta be. The most resilient culture in history. Yo, you gotta find, you got, you gotta rely on that greatness and that resilience and know that it's within you. And then another thing, what's going on right now is is not eternal. It's not gonna last. Whatever mood you're in, whatever hardship that you're going through, yeah. Yeah, I promise you. You look back a month, two, three months from now, and you almost are embarrassed at yourself. But that you took it to that extent. Yeah, for how you felt and some of the things you said about yourself. Yeah. You know what I mean? Right. And that has power too. Your words have power. So you can't, like go going back to what you said, saying stuff like, oh, I'm broke, and all this different type of stuff, you know, it has subconscious effects. Yeah. Right? It has, it has uh a psychological effect on how you go and how you move on a day-to-day basis. It affects your mood and your attitude. So you gotta, yeah, you gotta change that stuff. That's cool that you said that because it made it reminded me of um the importance of affirmations. Oh, yeah. Right? People think that just affirmations are I'm going to be uh in abundance or I'm going to be healthy. When you start saying I'm broke, that's the affirmation. Right? So the universe will be like, oh yeah. All right, well. Let me go ahead and get that account deeper in the red, right? Since you ain't worried about nothing, right? Oh, man. That's gotta be one of the most disheartening feelings, is when you check your bank account and what you think is in there or gonna be in there. That's heartbreaking, man. Apple music is your last $10. I'm like, and you was about to get a little more. You was just about to go. Give some food and you said and you see that Google you see that transaction Google Workplace got me. Oh man. And now you mad at the bank, right? You mad at the bank for something that you don't authorized. Why you authorized? Look, it's so crazy because you know you want to call the bank and be like, look, why y'all let that go through, right? Like the stuff that you want them to go through, you got pushback. Yeah. Like when the when I uh did the car insurance and I was $2 off, you gonna reject the the payment? That's what's crazy. But you gonna let Apple and Google put me in the red 106, a whole chain reaction, right? What? Two overdraft fees. It's over. You're done. The stuff that you plan on going through. Snowball. Hey, snowball effect, man. That's gotta be one of the most designed. Man, so so fill up your account, man. Get to the bag.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Straight up. Get to the bag to where the money is not even your biggest concern. It should be your health, your mental health, your spiritual being, your relationships. Yeah, and that's what's crazy because you got people so focused on that that they don't even have or they feel like they don't have time to work on all that other stuff because they feel like you know their finances ain't straight. So now they lacking in all. It's a chain reaction. It's a chain reaction is tough because withdrawal because it's just no way. The withdrawals. You gotta withdraw because of the withdrawals, yo. Like straight up. Hey, that is real, man. Talk it because I lived it, man. So you gotta know that people can relate to that. Like you're not the only one in that position. You know what I mean? So, you know, people live through it, man, and they figure their way out, and it's it's gonna be a brighter day. It's gonna be a brighter day. Yeah, man. And I think that's one of the things we enjoy doing is just keeping a 100 pops on conversations because every day, even days, every day isn't isn't perfect. You know, there's days where it's tough. Uh everybody got some type of connection to a family issue. You're dealing with trying to keep your health intact, mental health, you know, finances, you know, the relationships with the folks you think is your people, and just, you know, people using. Like it everybody experiences that. I don't care how much money's in your bank account. Oh, yeah. You're still dealing with mental health. Your mental health, still some type of form of depression, whether it's direct or indirect or caused by indirection, right? Um, your personal health, you know, working in the medical sector for over 14 years, and you know, my last before I retired out of the medical field, I worked for a cancer specialist. Oh, man. And, you know, that that retired me, to be honest with you. I was like, I'm old. And I and I worked in the Air Force as a medic. You know, but but actually people knowing that potentially any day. Right. Any day. And and what was wild about that, Jay, is a lot of people that were dealing with uh different, you know, cancers, blood disorders, because it's hematology and oncology. So um, they had a lot of money. It was rich people. And so these rich people, they were wealthy people, those rich and wealthy, but a lot of them, they were so wealthy that they didn't even have insurance. Oh, wow. Right? They just yeah, like, okay, it's, you know, and and of course, as a cash patient, you get a discount, right? Cash is king. So, um, but these people were paying out of pocket. I mean, that's how wealthy they were that they didn't worry about an insurance plan. Right. You know what I mean? Now they maybe, they may have had like life insurance. Right. You know what I mean? Of course, um, to where if they become disabled for term, they they get money, which is that's a whole nother conversation about having those type of benefits. But they these folks would literally trade in their millions of dollars to be healthy, to, to be without a cancer, to be without cancer cells, to not be dealing with lymphomas and sickle cells and stuff like that. They'll give all their money. Yeah. Yeah, I can, man. I can imagine the money. What does it mean at that point? That's the thing, right? What does it mean? Man, you know, so that was that was that was tough, man. Um, but what also got me out of that field is I felt like I could do more. You know what I mean? So when I'm going to somebody's office and I'm taking their bottle signs, drawing their blood, doing whatever the case is, um, and then just kind of talk to them, smile, make them laugh or whatever, you know, that's cool. But, you know, they gotta they gotta leave and then I go home. So I just felt like I could do more in inner fulfillment and also more impact. So that's why when I became an entrepreneur, I mean, I got into some real estate and some other stuff and did okay, and then did bad and then did a little bit better. But I knew when I got in my 40s, my impact was to be more of an inspiration of people 40 and up. Yeah. Because you don't have to go and work a job for 20, 30 years and then go home and sit down for a small percentage of what you was making for the last 30 years. It's like you can really get another career, you can start a business, you can become an entrepreneur. You ain't got to quit. But you know, you can build a belief system over here to where when you create something of your own, then it's gonna supplement what you're doing that for. Because a lot of times people are doing it for the money.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00They're doing it for the benefits. You know what I mean? Um, so you don't have to do it forever, is what I'm saying. And so for me, man, I I enjoyed my career, my medical career. It was 14, 15 years. Then it was time for me to move on to something else. So I'm glad that I was like 60 years old getting out of the game. Because now, man, I just I want to take walks with a big stick and prune juice and some grapefruit juice. Hey, look, come on, man. Bring my pills. Oh, man. Bring my pill, bring my pill box. That is clearly. Yes, you know what I mean? So now I'm thankful. And and uh again, building this legacy with with our brand and um and what we created, it's not, it doesn't stop at us. Right. So, you know, Parker, Cairo, Kingsley, uh, I mean, anybody else that comes, you know, uh, and even you know, the sisters, they can, they know this is the foundation. Yeah. And it's a footprint because we've documented everything and we have the blueprint. Yeah. So if they want to do it, we know exactly where to get you started. Yeah. And so that makes it, that makes it beautiful, man. Yeah, Pops. Yeah. I think, hey, man, toast. Yeah, that toast. Toast it up, man, to uh legacy, longevity, yes, and uh, and living. Living. Cheers. Whoo! Wow, hey, yeah. Hey, I'm gonna I'm gonna have to hit that grapefruit, man. That great fruit. Nah, I love it. I didn't know I was gonna love it, but I love it. Um yeah, Paul, see, no, I know we we gotta wrap up, but yeah, hearing you talk about that, I got one question I want to ask you. Yeah. Because as I age, you know, I'm watching you and I'm looking at, I mean, I I can't help but envision myself how I would look at
Health, Career Shifts, And Legacy
SPEAKER_00your age and like how I'm moving and stuff like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, 30 now, I'm in my 30s now. I just want to ask you, like, around the end of your 30s, going into your 40s, how did you, like, what did that feel like? Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Like, and then I guess maybe you can contrast it with the end of your 40s, right? Going into the 50s. But I just wonder, like, what was your mindset like? What were you, you know what I mean? Like, how did you just feel waking up every day knowing that I'm 40 years old now? Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, yeah. So um, really good question. Uh, I would I thought my prime was my mid-30s. Really? I felt like, like, physique-wise, I felt like my body fat was mad low, and that, you know, um, I was working out pretty heavy, right? So, really, really defined, really, really disciplined. Yeah. You know, um, but as I as I aged, I realized it's not about bulk, it's about lean muscle. Because lean muscle is gonna help burn fat them them days where you do slow down. Okay. And you're not doing two or three a days and stuff like that. Because you're not gonna do that for help. No. Number one, you got other stuff to do. Yeah. So let's be responsible, right? You you can't tell, you can't tell the family, look, I ain't getting no groceries because I'm over here on biceps today. Like, don't get your butt or over to the markets. Yeah, I get my rips. Hey, the folks starving at the house, right? Hey, you're supposed to be a boss. Right. Huh? So, uh, but you know, I I was I was aware of uh the the physical aspect, and I was aware of the financial aspect. So um even got to a point where I felt like I was chasing money. I felt like I was chasing money instead of building something too attractive. Okay. You know, so um, and then my my workout regimen really I was I trained. So I was very specific, you know, versus building healthy habits. Okay. Because again, you're not gonna be able to do two, three days for the rest of your life. Because what what if you you now are a business owner and you have to make sure that everything is attacked? What if now you have to travel? Yeah. You can go nuts if you're not going to the gym two, three times a day, right? So uh by the healthy habits, you you're talking about like diet and is that what you mean about it? Sleeping. Yeah, exactly what I mean. So, because you can work out and your body can respond a certain way until a certain age. Right? So just like when when because you can still do it, but when you even when we was younger, you can eat whatever you want, right? Yeah. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, all that stuff, not work out, wake up in the morning, all the shit flat. Yeah, in the morning. Matter of fact, your body won't cut. Right. You're like, wait a minute, I eat garbage and I'm good. It's it's hey, look, you don't get you're gonna get a reminder in 10 years, though, what you done did, right? Uh-huh. Not anybody's gonna be like, hey, you you remember that? Yeah. Yeah, well, hey, I'm here. So you guys, so it's gonna start now. So you gotta have healthy habits, meaning uh walking. You know, uh, and I say walking versus jogging because you jog and then you may have an ankle injury, then you may have calf muscle injury, you may have knee injury, right? But if you pace yourself and you walk every day or as many times as you can for like 10 to 15 minutes, then that's your routine. And then you realize that it's more than just exercise, it's mental clarity, it's an opportunity to pray, get your thoughts together. Oh, yeah. You you realize the overall health versus headphones in the gym and you grunt. Yeah. And you're competing with this guy over here, he's hollering. Right? You're not thinking about prayer and meditation and your thoughts. Nah, you see what I'm saying? Right. So those are the healthy habits, and you start realizing that when you schedule your day, you're more prepared. You know? Um, and that's one thing that the military helped me out because we would wake up at five o'clock. Five o'clock, we get up, we do our exercise, we get ready to do whatever we're supposed to do, whatever our job was, right? So obviously, when I got out the military, I ain't gonna do that no more. What? I'm waking up when I want to wake up now. Because I've been doing it for so long, right? I feel like that's the perfect time to wake up. I think it is too. Right? But but when you when you've done it because somebody told you to do it, right, right, right. Now you just, I ain't got to. When I get up, I get but but of course, again, it also depends on what you got going on. So either you work in a uh you work in your job, right? But but what if now you're an entrepreneur and you have to control your own schedule? Yeah, you still want to be organized, you still want to start at a certain time because you have hours of operation when you handle business. So you still want to get stuff you know taken care of. So those healthy habits, man, are so important because you learn, that's how you learn consistency, that's how you learn discipline, and those things
Aging Well Through Healthy Habits
SPEAKER_00are going to convert over to everything else you do. Yeah. Relationships, your work ethic, and you know, whatever your skill set is, honing on them. So those are the main things, man, and really just valuing relationships, valuing friendships. And I think that that's so important. So for me, in the 30s to 40s, that was so crucial because you also realizing that there's people that ain't really like you like you thought. Oh man. You you realize that there's some family members that really was jealous of you or didn't care for you. And so you have to have the mental capacity to allow the people to be who they are. Right? They they're not gonna buy your products, they're not gonna share your website, they'll they'll share somebody they don't even know. Yeah. Doing the same thing you doing, right? You you you might have friends that are sharing other uh poets and spoken words stuff on their page. You're like, really? I never liked it. You wasn't even into it like that, right? Watched it, right? Right. Tagging them and everything, right? They don't even know. Yeah. But um, so really that and working on your spiritual relationship, not getting caught up in, you know, making sure that you go to church and go to church six to seven times a week, because you can do all of that as a routine and then not have a strong relationship with your creator. So um, those are things, man, that I felt was just so necessary that these are healthy habits. So when I say healthy habits, mentally healthy, spiritually healthy, physically healthy, emotionally healthy. Yeah. Right? And uh valuing relationships. Like, we've all ran across people that were good for us at the time, right? But because you guys did not make it to a couple or you didn't get romantically involved, you got cut off. Right. Right? And so these are people that, you know, may have been very genuine, and then now you don't have no contact with them or whatever. And then you have all these regrets a little bit later on, then you got to come back to them 10 years later, be like, you know what, I was wrong, I was dating somebody. She ain't want me to have no friends. I had to get rid of all my friends, you ain't even with them. Right. But for three to six months, not even years. Yeah. So creating healthy habits, um, you know, of course, that's the long version. But um, yeah, once you do that, man, it's a blueprint for the rest of your life that you don't have to veer off, and then you can always reference. So when you know that you're in a fun, when you know that things aren't right around you, go right back to that blueprint. So you're yeah. Go back, go back to your schematics. Okay, okay, man. So that's what I would give, bro. I like that. Yeah, and then you know, every chapter you're gonna get better anyway. Because you're taking that wisdom and them lessons and you converting it over to your new chapters and experiences. Sweet. Yeah, man. I'm excited. Yeah, yeah. I'm excited about age. I know a lot of people are kind of afraid, like they don't want to get older. They like but I I'd be excited to be like, man, I'm about to be so lit. You know what I'm saying?
